The new HABC Level 2 awards in food safety are run as 1 day or 2 evening courses.  This course is suitable for anyone who is in the food or catering working environment. It has been designed to give an appreciation of the fundamentals of good safe practice.  This is an essential qualification for anyone working with food, particularly in catering, hospitality, pubs, hotels, hospitals and care homes.

Outline Programme

The training programme covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to food safety
  • Microbiological hazards (bacteria)
  • Food poisoning and its control
  • Contamination hazards & controls
  • HACCP from purchase to service
  • Spoilage and preservation
  • Food handlers and personal hygiene
  • Food premises and equipment
  • Food pests and control
  • Cleaning and disinfection
  • Food safety law and enforcement

Qualification information

The Level 2 awards are sector specific and the training programme has been developed to allow courses to be tailored to meet the needs of staff working in catering, manufacturing or retail environments.

Course duration: Minimum 6 hours, 1 day or 2 evenings

Assessment method: 15 multiple choice question examination

Trainers: All E.M.S. trainers used are qualified and accredited to Train in Food Safety

Cost: £50 per candidate this includes Manual, assessment and certification (10 min per course)
